Here is an easy acronym to remember what to do when you check in to your hotel/motel/Airbnb or even your family's home. SLEEP
- Survey the room for any signs of bed bugs. Check out the mattress, seams, headboards, and crevices.
- Lift any mattresses, furniture, and other items a bug might want to lay low in.
- Elevate your luggage to the bathroom (bed bugs don't like slick areas) before placing it on the dresser or a chair.
- Examine your luggage as you pack and unpack when you get home. Bring sealed plastic bags; you can leave your luggage encased while traveling.
- Put your clothing in the dryer for at least 15 minutes, on the highest heat, to kill any hitchhikers.
